UNIVERSITY DON LECTURES NAFRC PARTICIPANTS ON SECURITY MANAGEMENT AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION Describe the image

COMMENTARY: Security and conflict resolution are critical pillars of peaceful coexistence, effective governance and sustainable community development. While security involves the protection of lives, property, institutions and the environment from threats, conflict resolution focuses on addressing disagreements and disputes through dialogue, negotiation, mediation and other peaceful mechanisms. It was against this backdrop that Professor Ada delivered a lecture on Security Management and Conflict Resolution to participants of Course 2/2026 at the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre, NAFRC, Oshodi. The lecture exposed participants to the fundamental principles of security management and the importance of identifying, preventing and managing threats before they escalate into crises. Professor Ada also highlighted the relationship between insecurity and community development, stressing that sustainable development can hardly take place in an environment where lives and property are constantly under threat. According to the lecturer, effective conflict resolution requires communication, mutual understanding, tolerance and the willingness of conflicting parties to seek common ground. The lecture further emphasized the importance of early warning and early response mechanisms in preventing disputes from developing into violent conflicts. For communities, effective security management and conflict resolution can promote peace, attract investment, protect infrastructure and create an enabling environment for social and economic development. For the participants of Course 2/2026, the lecture provided valuable knowledge that could be applied not only in their post-service careers but also in their various communities and areas of responsibility. As the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre continues to prepare personnel for life beyond active military service, lectures of this nature reinforce the importance of leadership, security consciousness, peaceful conflict management and responsible community engagement.
