GOC CHARGES TROOPS TO JUSTIFY PAY RISE WITH MORE WORK AND COMMITMENT
DAURA, KATSINA STATE — The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 1 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander, Sector 1, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Abubakar Sadique Muhammad Wase, has charged troops to justify the Federal Government’s recent pay rise through increased commitment, hard work and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
The GOC gave the charge on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, while addressing troops of 171 Battalion in Daura, Katsina State.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi.
Major General Wase described the improved remuneration as a demonstration of the Federal Government’s appreciation for the sacrifices and selfless service of military personnel in protecting the nation’s territorial integrity and safeguarding the lives and property of citizens.
He, however, reminded the troops that the pay rise comes with increased expectations, emphasising that “to whom much is given, much is expected.”
The GOC urged the soldiers to redouble their efforts, remain vigilant and uphold the highest standards of discipline and professionalism in the performance of their operational responsibilities.
He further charged them to prioritise their personal safety, protect the civilian population and ensure the security of military equipment and other resources entrusted to their care.
Major General Wase also reaffirmed the commitment of 1 Division to addressing the administrative and logistical needs of personnel, noting that continuous efforts were being made to improve troop welfare and provide the necessary support for effective operations.
According to him, adequate administrative and logistical support remains essential to enhancing operational efficiency and sustaining the morale of troops deployed in the field.
In a related engagement, Major General Wase has commended members of the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA), describing them as indispensable pillars of support to military personnel.
He commended the women for their endurance, sacrifices and unwavering support for their husbands, particularly while they carry out demanding military assignments away from home.
The GOC encouraged members of NASWA to remain steadfast in providing emotional and domestic support to their husbands, stressing that a stable home environment contributes significantly to soldiers’ morale, concentration and operational performance.
He acknowledged the important role military families play in sustaining the fighting spirit of personnel, noting that the sacrifices made by soldiers’ wives are an integral part of the broader effort to support military operations.
The engagement reflects the Nigerian Army’s continued emphasis on troop welfare, family support, discipline and operational readiness as critical factors in the successful execution of military responsibilities.
