Abuja, Nigeria – The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to personnel welfare and operational efficiency with the commissioning of a newly constructed Officers Transit Accommodation at Life Camp, Abuja, alongside the inauguration of 48 other projects across the country. The commissioning ceremony, held on Thursday, October 29, 2026, marked another milestone in the Army’s efforts to address accommodation challenges, upgrade critical infrastructure and provide a more conducive environment for officers, soldiers and their families. In a statement issued by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Army disclosed that the Life Camp facility is one of 11 projects commissioned within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), while 38 additional projects were inaugurated across Nigerian Army formations and units nationwide. The projects reflect the Army’s sustained drive to improve living and working conditions, strengthen personnel morale and enhance administrative effectiveness and operational readiness. Speaking at the event, Lieutenant General Shaibu said the projects were consistent with his Command Philosophy, particularly the pillars of Sound Administration and the Soldier First Concept, which place the welfare of personnel at the centre of building a professional, adaptable, combat-ready and resilient force. The COAS emphasised that adequate accommodation and essential infrastructure remain vital to boosting morale, improving productivity and enabling personnel to discharge their constitutional responsibilities effectively. He charged officers who would occupy the newly commissioned transit accommodation to maintain the facility properly and uphold the highest standards of discipline, accountability and responsibility. General Shaibu also reiterated his determination to sustain investments in personnel welfare and infrastructure across Army formations and units. He expressed appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his continued support to the Nigerian Army. Earlier, the Chief of Logistics (Army), Major General Adekunle Adeyinka, explained that the Officers Transit Accommodation was constructed to address temporary housing challenges faced by officers posted to Army Headquarters and other formations in Abuja. According to him, the facility comprises well-furnished, self-contained apartments equipped with modern amenities to provide comfortable accommodation for officers awaiting permanent housing allocation. He noted that the facility would improve officers’ welfare, ease accommodation difficulties and enhance administrative efficiency, particularly for personnel newly posted to the nation's capital. As part of his visit, the COAS inspected ongoing infrastructure projects within Life Camp, including additional accommodation blocks, road rehabilitation and drainage works. He expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work but directed contractors to adhere strictly to approved specifications and completion timelines to ensure the timely delivery of the projects. The commissioning of the 49 projects nationwide underscores the Nigerian Army’s coordinated approach to addressing longstanding infrastructure gaps and strengthening the welfare of its personnel. Beyond improving accommodation, the projects are expected to create a more enabling environment for training, administration and military operations, reinforcing the Army leadership’s commitment to building a professional, combat-ready and welfare-conscious force.
