FLOOD DISASTER: ADC HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CANDIDATE, CHINEDU ONYEAGBA, VISITS ANINRI FLOOD VICTIMS

ENUGU — The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the Aninri/Awgu/Oji River Federal Constituency, Hon. Chinedu Onyeagba, has visited communities affected by the recent flooding in Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State, expressing concern over the impact of the disaster on residents and their livelihoods. Onyeagba’s visit came amid reports of flooding affecting several communities in Aninri, with residents facing damage to homes, farmland, roads and other community infrastructure.

Recent reports have particularly highlighted the situation in Mpu, Okpanku, Obiagu, Oduma and Ndeabor. During the visit, the ADC candidate inspected some of the affected areas and interacted with residents to assess the extent of the damage and hear directly from victims about their immediate challenges. The visit also provided an opportunity for affected residents to draw attention to the disruption of farming activities, movement and access to essential services caused by the rising floodwaters. Speaking during the visit, Onyeagba expressed sympathy with families affected by the disaster and called for urgent intervention to reduce the humanitarian and economic consequences of the flooding. He also stressed the need for coordinated intervention by relevant government authorities and other stakeholders, particularly in communities where roads, bridges and agricultural areas have been affected. The flooding has generated growing calls for government intervention in Aninri. Community reports have highlighted concerns over damaged access routes and the effect of flooding on farming communities. The visit by Onyeagba therefore places additional attention on the immediate needs of residents affected by the disaster and the broader challenge of finding sustainable solutions to recurring flooding in the area.
